Posted by: Trainee

Hello! This is Hawker! During my off day, i went to my favourite place again in Tokyo again towards Daikanyama!

Initially I just wanted to have a lunch at one of the best restaurant around the corner!

Its called IVY PLACE. Do check it out if you have the time! They serve really good meals and dessert there

(They have different variety of menus available. They change menu for breakfast, lunch & Dinner, weekdays & weekends)

I ordered grilled pork loin! Its really really good!

image3

Good food, Good atmosphere = Happy hawker!

Without knowing beforehand, Daikanyama was actually having a French antique event where there were having bazaar that sells almost anything from really antique furnitures, clothes, accessories and others from the year 1910~1950's!

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Check out their clothing bazaar!

After our shopping, we were too tired to move, so we just stopped by for a cup of creme brulee to charge up the day! I apologize for the lack of pictures as my phone was out of battery! But for anyone who is interested in the event, here's the link below for more details. They organize the same event yearly.

Indonesia Trip Part III

Trainee 5279

Posted by: Trainee

無題-211x300Selamat Siang! This is Hawker again writing the blog for the 3rd time this week!

I hope all of you have enjoyed the Indonesia trip series! Today, lets continue towards the part III towards the journey!

This time, I would like to give a special shout out to all the friends who love mountain climbing or in fact anyone who just loves nature !

Introducing Indonesia's most active volcano with extremely gorgeous sunrise. Mount Bromo!

Here's are the a few tips before getting there.

1- Nearest Airport to land

Fly to Surabaya, it is one of the largest cities in Indonesia. Everything would be so much more accessible compared to other cities such as Malang.

2- What to wear?

Indonesia, in general is always hot with an average temperature of 30 degrees and above in the afternoon.

However, take note that you will NEED winter clothing in up in Mount Bromo! Early in the morning , the temperature reaches all the way down to Zero degree celcius.

(Yes! I'm not kidding, and i actually learnt the hard way by not bringing any warm clothes. I had to buy their overpriced clothes)

3- Where is the best place and what should i do ?

If you are not the type of person who likes to go adventure by yourself, the best option is to hire guides once you get to Mount Bromo.

The price is approximately 15,000 yen (around 130 USD) for a one day trip + drivers with jeep that treks almost anywhere. ( Please take note that this you are recommended to tip them as well)

The whole journey would consist 4 different places.

They are The Peak to see the sunrise, Crater, Pasir Berbisik (Dessert), and Savana

image1

Here's us trying to rush to get to the peak to see the sunrise! Look at how thick the mist could get!

image3

Waiting for the sunrise! I look so bad with my clothes coordination! I did not bring my winter clothing and i had to pay such a premium price by buying right at the mountain! Remember to bring thick winter clothes when you are here!

image2

The second part of our journey at the crater! Right in the middle is our guide, Pak Heboh. (Which means Mr. Marvelous literally). Finally the weather got better and it started getting warmer.

image4

The 3rd part of the journey at Pasir Berbising, which means the whispering sands. This place is definitely my favorite place out of the 4 courses! Who could have guess that there is actually a huge dessert right in the middle of the volcano.

image5

Last but not least, the 4th course at Savanah! Earlier back we were exploring a dessert that does not consist any life. On the other side of the volcano, Savannah is a a place that boast its greeneries! The local people call this place teletubbies land because it looks just like where teletubbies live!

It is impossible to describe how beautiful Mount Bromo is until you actually see it with your own eyes. The whole package is so un-describable !I hope you enjoyed this part too!

Indonesia Introduction Part II

Trainee 5276

Hello this is Hawker. Whenever i travel to Jakarta, there is always a place that i cannot forget to visit.

Waking up at early dusk to avoid the traffic jam, I always spend 3 hours ride to Taman Safari Indonesia at Bogor.

By the way , they are under the same marine & zoo safari in Bali!

Taman Safari covers an area of 170 hectares and boasting a total collection of more than 2500 animals. These animals include

Bengal tigers, Malayan sun bears, giraffes, orangutans, hippos, zebras, cheetahs, elephants, and Komodo dragons!

Why do i recommend this place if you may ask? Three reasons!

1- Compared to any other zoos, the animals get to roam freely while you drive along! We get to interact with the animals!

2- You get to feed the animals! (Yes, even hippopotamus)

3- If you have any friends that are not into animals, there's a theme park complete with roller coasters and haunted house IN the area. (Ticket price already included with the theme park entry)

4- You get to see tigers roam around freely!

image5

There are plenty of elephant shows all around and you can interact with them closely

image4

Driving your car around with different type of animals waiting to greet you!

image3

The Hippopotamus came asking for carrots and banana afterwards!

image1

Every time we try to feed one, the rest of the pack came along asking more food!

Well, If you ever have a chance to stop by Indonesia Jakarta, don't forget to stop by this laid back zoo that has been opened since the year 1990! Oh, forget to mention this but, they do have special cottage where guests get to stay in caravan while animals get to roam around freely! If you are a animal lover, this is a must go place for you! Hope you enjoyed this one! Happy Safari-ing!

Here is the particulars of the place in further details below:

Address: Taman Safari Indonesia Bogor Jalan Raya Puncak No. 601, Cisarua 16750, Bogor

Phone. +62 251- 8250000 Fax. +62 251- 8250 555

Website: https://bogor.tamansafari.com

How to get there: 2.5 hours drive by car from Jakarta (Recommended to leave at dusk to avoid traffic jam due to small roads)

Cheers, Hawker

What is not allowed to do in Japan?

Trainee 5273

Posted by: Trainee

This is Hawker once again writing Sakura hotel Jimbocho's Blog. A few of my friends will be coming to Japan for their first time, and they came out with a question that i have never thought about!

'What are the Top Not to do Things in Japan'? Let me share them with you

IMG_0094

1- Do not walk with your shoes in the house!

House in Japan usually have a small space before entering the house called 'genkan'. It is a place where guests get to remove their shoes, and house slippers are usually given by the house owner to move in the house.

Bonus: At most places, there are even special slippers for bathroom as well

2- Do not use talk on the phone in the train and keep them on silent mode.

Talking on the phone while on the train or not keeping them on silent mode is considered very rude in Japan!

3- Kanto elevator: always keep left, Kasai elevator: Keep right

Kanto(Tokyo): Always keep on your left while taking the escalator if you are not passing! the right lane are for passing.

Kansai(Osaka): Oppositely, stay on your right on the escalator, and proceed to the left to pass

4- Wash yourself before dipping into the Onsen

Before proceeding yourself into the Onsen, Japanese people usually wash themselves before entering into the tub. So don't forget to clean yourself up!

5- Dont eat or drink while walking

With our usual busy lifestyles,we are usually used to walk while eating something on-the-go.In Japan, it is considered rude for doing that, so be careful!

I hope you find this guide helpful! Despite these few not to do things list, do not forget to enjoy yourself while in Japan! See you guys soon!

Hello! This is Hawker from Sakura Hotel Jimbocho writing to you!

Finished exploring Asakusa. Shopped in Shinjuku. Crossed the intersection in Shibuya. Where to go next?

How about going to the most stylish place around Tokyo for a sip of the finest coffee while spending your time reading books of your choice?

Let me introduce you Daikanyama!

Daikanyama is well known for its artistic area while boasting for its abudance of stylist designer shops. It is like the Brooklyn of Japan. Here's are 3 of my favourite place there!

1. T-Site

T-Site is the most popular attraction in Daikanyama. Featuring stylish building and they have a wide range of books, videos and music.Spend a few hours exploring here!

2. Perch by woodberry coffee

Probably my favourite coffee around Tokyo area. Do try their Cappucino! You will be amazed at how soft and creamy it can get!

3. Mocha Coffee

Just one word, Yemen. The beans are imported directly from Yemen. Where else can you sip a cup of quality coffee that is directly imported from Yemen? The shop is hidden away from all the tall buildings in Daikanyama, but it is easy to see because it is made from a narrow glass building.

What are you waiting for!? Lets go to Daikanyama! remember to say hi if me weet there!

Top 5 Surprising things in Japan!

Trainee 5252

Posted by: Trainee

Hello! This is Hawker from Sakura Hotel Jimbocho! As a foreigner living in Tokyo, there are several things that about Japan that surprised me. Here are the top 5 things that i want to share with you!

#1. Melons are really really expensive.

Each melon can cost from a range of 3,000 yen to 30,000 yen in Japan! If you have a chance to try them, please give it a try! I never knew that Melon can get so delicious!

#2. Slurping is a good...Good..GOOD!

Ever been scolded by your mom to mind your manners when you slurp your noodles? Well..definitely not in Japan.Slurping loudly on your Ramen or Soba indicates that the food is good and it compliments the chef!

#3. KFC gets really crowded during Christmas

Eating KFC is one of Japan's tradition every year during Christmas! Yes, they even take pre-order a few weeks in advance!!

#4. Eating Poisonous Fugu (Blowfish) is a huge delicacy in Japan.

Learning to prepare Fugu is serious business! It takes approximately 18 years for a chef to be certified to cut and to master on how to serve them.

#5. Lastly,Eating Raw Horse meat is common in Japan

Called as 'bashashi', it is a raw sashimi made out of Horse meat! My friends lied to me on my first try, they told me it was made from beef. It is surprisingly delicious! GIVE IT A TRY!

What are the surprising things or interesting things that you have experience in Japan? Please let me know!
