Do you eat octopus in your country?

Do you eat octopus in your country?
In Japan, we do - we eat loads of them.

We Japanese are the largest consumer of octopus,
which accounts for about 60% of its' whole consumption around the world.

Other countries where octopuses are eaten include China, Korea
and South European countries such as Greece, Spain and Italy.
Western European countries do not have customs of eating octopus,
and it is sometimes called as a "devilfish".

Well, whatever it is called in other countries, it's my favourite food!
I especially love eating it as sashimi.

Mmm!

If anyone knows a good recipe for cooking octopus,
please let me know!

Funny clouds

I like looking at the sky.
It is really interesting because sometimes you can see funny clouds.

The most common one you get in summer is the cumulonimbus clouds
(or thunder clouds), which cause squall with thunders.

I quite like cirrocumulus clouds (or mackerel clouds), which look like scales of fish.
I think it's very artistic, but I always wonder how those shapes are formed...

Below is the Cirrus cloud.

Here is Nimbus clouds (or rainy clouds).

And this is altostratus clouds.

Finally, contrail clouds!

Now you've learnt some names of the clouds,
you'll know what type of cloud you're looking at the next time you look up in the sky!

Summer Sonic 2011!

Maria 563

Posted by: Maria

Hello all!

As I mentioned in a previous blog about Fuji Rock, summer is festival season, and Summer Sonic was last weekend.
It was my first festival experience, and it was indeed a hot one (in more than one sense)!!

One of my all time favourite bans, X Japan played and they gave, as always a fantastic performance. All other bands on the Marine stage were using a minimum amount of lights and visual due to this summers power saving. This of course would be impossible for a band like X! They used fire, lasers and confetti bombs, which still was all VERY toned down for a band like X Japan! So the audience as you can imagine were going crazy!

5516671709_dd25eb349a_b.jpg

They played their newest song as well as some old classics. What was most moving was when drummer Yoshiki asked for a moment of silence. Last month (17th) former X bassist Taiji passed away. This moment of silence was to remember those who have passed, not only former X members Hide and Taiji, but also for all those lost in this years Great Kanto Earthquake. The whole stadium (over 20,000 people) fell silent. A historical moment.

Another band that really impressed me was the Japanese hardcore band (MAXIMUM THE HORMONE). A  dynamic hardcore  performance with surprisingly lots of comedy took my by great surprise. I had heard them many times before, but never seen them live. It definitely added to the respect I have for them!

Finally, one of the major guests in the line up, the Red Hot Chili Pepers. New band member Josh Kilington rocked the house with classics as well as new hits. Flea was as always entertaining and slap-tasically awesome (I really love Flea!!!!).  I definitely think their age is catching up to them as the performance was rather mellow and toned down. Still amazing to see these veterans live!

And that's all I have to say! It was an extremely hot day and I had to stand up most of the time, but at the end of it it was worth every drop of sweat, every aching toe and every burnt flake of skin. A day to remember.

Until next time.

Vacanze estive di Bon

Takeshi 561

Posted by: Takeshi

ci recuperiamo a settembre!

Torneo di baseball di liceo

Takeshi 560

Posted by: Takeshi

Cup Noodle....Rice?

Maria 558

Posted by: Maria

Hello all!

Do you like noodles? I'm sure you have hear or seen the popular Japanese instant noodle brand "Cup Noodle". Well, I went to the convenient store this morning to have my daily fix of breakfast onigiri when I stumbled upon this!

img_976017_26406252_2.jpg

It's a new product, Cup Noodle Rice!

To be honest, I'm not sure it should even be called "Cup Noodle" as it doesn't have any noodles in it. It is just Cup Noodle flavoured... Rather bizarre actually.
Anyway, the picture looked quite promising, so I thought I'd be a bit adventurous and try it!

Inside it looked like this:

c1008224d.jpg

...Not too appetizing...But hey, the taste might be amazing, surely Cup Noodle taste can't go wrong!!

...I realised it is called Cup Noodle for a reason... Noodles in a cup, only work with noodles.

I can not speak for all Cup Noodle devotees out there, so please do try it if you have a chance.
I will very likely not get it again. I'll stick to the original, Cup NOODLE.

Until next time.

United States of Odaiba!

Maria 557

Posted by: Maria

Hello all!

The hot summer days are continuing to torture us, but we are hanging in there!
Yesterday I went to one of Odaiba's annual summer events "お台場合衆国" or
"United States of Odaiba". I have been going to this event every year and I always
look forward to what it has to offer.
This event is organised by Fuji Television  and almost all events and attractions
evolve around popular Tv shows.

This year the popular manga "One Piece" was the main theme where they have limited goods
and a figurine museum. You can also take purikura with the characters!

The main attraction however was this:

It's "Thousand Sunny"!!!
A real sized SUNNY! The cues are long, but you can actually enter the deck! It has small details from the original manga like Nami's trees and such.
It also has a slide you can get yourself off the ship with!
I was quite moved when I saw Sunny, and it made me forget all about the excruciating heat....
Ok not really, but It was pretty damn awesome!

"United States of Odaiba" had slightly cheaper entry this year (1500yen) but less attractions due to the electricity cuts, but if you get a chance to swing by please do!

That's all for now.
Until next time.

Sempre da scoprire a Nikko

Takeshi 550

Posted by: Takeshi
